Fashion merchandise major at Illinois State University

My name is Ann Lin. I am currently pursuing a Family Consumer Science major concentrate on fashion merchandise at Illinois State University and expecting to graduate in December 2020. I am a Taiwanese girl who has dreamed of studying abroad since once my sister participated in a study abroad program and shared her experience with me. After graduating from university, I was accumulating working experiences and preparing required English tests simultaneously in order to accomplish my dream. Thankfully, my family and friends have always been supportive, so I was able to pursue my goal without further concerns.

When I was in undergraduate, I got chances of visiting some places of America such as Idaho and California, and I was amazed by the different landscapes, cultures, and lifestyles. I would say that these foreign trips were a significant shift in my life, and that’s the time I decided that I wanted to study in America. I was also a chief director of planning at Region Alumni Association at Huafan University and responsible for holding several events. During the time, I was capable of cooperating with a variety of people and completed the tasks effectively. After graduated, I worked as a planning assistant in the marketing department for almost two years in Gao Feng Enterprises, Taiwan. As a marketing planner assistant in Gao Feng Enterprises, I was responsible for contacting all the suppliers and communicating with them. Even though the knowledge which I am now absorbing and the job that I will be doing have a huge difference than before, I feel like the previous experiences have enhanced my teamwork and problem- solving capacities and enable me to utilize in the present and future tasks.

As a professional merchandiser in the future, I am currently working on multiple marketing projects on the steps of writing marketing proposals and examining the profits and expenses of the company. Furthermore, I will be doing several merchandising researches about retailing management and sustainability in a couple of weeks. One of the marketing projects I worked on was about analyzing the company’s background to see if it works in a particular country as well as acquiring potential consumers. Additionally, I also utilized content-based projects in the previous semester, and some of them will participate in the competition soon. Working in the fashion industry has always been my career goal. I carry with a comprehension of fundamentals in fashion merchandise, good command in English and Chinese, an aptitude for solving problems, and teamwork. In the future, I hope that my previous working experiences, leadership roles, and coursework help me become a competitive merchandiser.

This analysis- based website doesn’t only provide me a platform to enhance my observational skills about visual merchandising strategic in the majority of fashion stores but also furnishes an opportunity to communicate with other bloggers and further share our opinion together.
